1980年6月4日中国加入世界知识产权组织，《建立世界知识产权组织公约》对中国生效。为了促进全世界对知识产权的保护，加强各国和各知识产权组织间的合作，“国际保护工业产权联盟”和“国际保护文学作品联盟”的51个成员国于1967年7月14日在瑞典首都斯德哥尔摩共同缔约建立了世界知识产权组织。该组织于１９７４年１２月成为联合国的专门机构之一。
